There are five different parts of the Senior Yoga Class.

1. The class starts with a centering by becoming self-aware in a non-judgmental way creating a peaceful focus.

2. While sitting in a chair we move each part of the body to its fullest comfortable range of motion in order to loosen and release each joint. Because we only do so many sorts of movements in our normal day we may not be moving EACH joint to its fullest range of motion and we, therefore, can lose mobility and create imbalances.

3. Specially designed standing movements are then performed to lengthen and contract particular muscle groups in order to create heat within the muscles for optimal benefit while performing the balance and standing yoga postures.

4. Floor postures are then done on hands and knees, lying belly down & back down, and sitting on the floor. Yoga uses our own body's weight and gravity for building strength and flexibility. Many times the only way to strengthen certain parts of our body is by getting down on the floor. Back problems are prevalent because one of the best ways to care for the back is done while being on the floor which is not what most people do in their everyday life.

5. A guided relaxation is at the end of class where a wonderful sense of peace is felt in both body and mind.

Slow intentional breathing is done throughout the class. The benefits of this type of breathing go on and on. One of the main benefits is that it helps to reduce stress which helps you to better be able to deal with the challenges of each day both physically and mentally.

This class is meant to adapt to your needs and limitations. Some people only stay for the chair part of the class and some leave before we go down to the floor. When you come regularly you will be able to do more and more of the class. Little by little you'll get stronger and more flexible until one day you won't even believe that you weren't able to do certain things when you first came to class.

Come and give it a try!

Please, feel free to leave at any time during the class.
Take from it what works best for you.
